According to friend Leonard Maltin, Rick Scheckman, who worked with David Letterman for more than 30 years, died Friday at Bellevue Hospital in New York.
He was 67 years old and had “many health concerns,” according to reports.
Scheckman joined “Late Night With David Letterman” in 1982, one month after the show debuted on NBC. He rapidly piqued the interest of the crew and was promoted to full-time film coordinator. Later, he joined Letterman at CBS and worked on “The Late Show,” occasionally appearing as an actor in a joke. He stayed till the show was over.

Scheckman died early Friday morning at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan from “various health difficulties,” according to his friend Leonard Maltin.
The Queens native was an obsessive film collector who had amassed rare footage from decades of celluloid that could be used for advertisements, TV shows, and other uses.
In March 1982, a month after the show aired on NBC, Scheckman joined Late Night With David Letterman. Scheckman was used so frequently by the writers that he was offered a full-time job as a film coordinator.
