Hungry Jacks Yumbo return dubbed embarrassment to burgers

Publish date: 2024-06-16

Hungry Jack’s recently brought back an iconic burger after overwhelming pressure from customers, but it appears not everyone is a fan.

The Yumbo burger was a staple during the 1970s and 1980s, before it was discontinued in 1991.

Since then, burgers have come a long way, with fast-food chains even selling fancy, gourmet burgers.

However, the simplicity of the Yumbo, which is made of up ham and cheese, has infuriated one burger lover who has called it an “embarrassment” to the burger community.

The TikTok user who goes by the handle ‘unclemartinez’ has used the social media platform to unleash his fury over the cult item.

“See this vein in my neck, it’s because of this burger,” he yells.

“It’s actually embarrassing to have it on my screen.

“Whoever said the burgers are better at Hungry Jack’s … explain yourself.”

He goes on to say that if he wanted a “flippin ham and cheese sandwich” he would just go to his local barber shop, implying you can get it anywhere.

“Why are you selling corn meat Hungry Jack’s? You’re not a flippin delicatessen. Stick to burgers, actually quit burgers, sell your company.”

He said whoever came up with the idea was on a mission to sabotage the business.

“What is this,” he asks again before answering his own question.

“This is an embarrassment to the burger community.”

Since posting the video on Thursday, it has clocked more than 130,000 views and hundreds of comments from people sharing his frustration.

“It looks like it tastes sweaty,” one person joked. “Taste tested and you’d be right,” another replied. “Was very, very slimy”.

“Was I not making fun of that ‘burger’,” a third person said, tagging their friend.

A Hungry Jack’s employee also commented saying, “they’re so popular for no reason”.

In fact, the fast-food chain only brought back the Yumbo due to a years-long campaign from customers.

“Our Western Australian customers have been particularly vocal in calling for the return of the Yumbo,” Hungry Jack’s chief marketing officer Scott Baird said in April.

There’s even a Facebook group called Bring Back The Hungry Jack’s Yumbo with more than 2600 members.

Hungry Jack’s has been teasing the return of the Yumbo for years, with CEO Chris Green telling 6PR in 2019 the burger would be making a comeback at some point.

“That is probably one of the most requested items to return to our stores,” he said.

It sounds like a, you’ll either love it, or hate it, kinda situation.
