Ford issues recall for Ranger ute and Everest 4WD
Ford has issued an urgent safety recall for the popular Ranger dual-cab ute and Everest four-wheel drive.
More than 4800 Rangers and Everests built between 2021 and 2023 are being recalled for a potentially dangerous issue according to a notice issued by the Federal Government Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts.
The recall notice states that if the car’s battery drops below a certain level it can result in a software issue that causes the vehicle’s gear to shift into park at speeds below 6km/h.
When this happens the vehicle may come to a sudden stop without the rear brake lights illuminating
According to the notice: “A sudden stop while driving at low speed and the rear brake lamps not illuminating as intended, could increase the potential risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users”.
Ford will contact affected owners directly and urge them to contact their local dealership to make an appointment for a free repair.
The Ford Ranger and Everest are built on the same platform and share many of their mechanical elements such as engines, transmissions and electronics.
The Ford Ranger has been the second-best selling vehicle in the nation for years behind the Toyota HiLux and the Everest has been a hot seller with larger families with a sense of adventure.
Australians have bought close to 32,000 Rangers and almost 7000 Everests through the first seven months of this year.
Ford launched new versions of the Everest and Ranger siblings in 2022 with a beefy new V6 turbodiesel, more advanced safety aids and plenty of hi-tech features in the cabin.
Both vehicles were designed and engineered in Australia at Ford’s Broadmeadows facility and are sold in more than 150 countries globally.
