    Dom Bess Facts

  • Hailing from a family of club-level cricketers, Dom had kick-started his career in the sport when he had joined Somerset County Cricket Club‘s academy at the age of 16. 2 years later, he had spent considerable time in Adelaide, Australia, honing his skills at former Australian cricket Darren Lehmann’s academy.
  • He had once mentioned in an interview that his inclination towards spin bowling, in his childhood, was because it required a much shorter run-up than pace bowling. Other than cricket, he was also a keen rugby player in his youth and used to play in the fly-half position.
  • In his County Championship debut, in 2016, in a match against Warwickshire County Cricket Club, he had picked up exceptional figures of 6/28 off 16 overs in the first innings. The first 2 of those wickets were of the England stars Jonathan Trott and Ian Bell, off successive deliveries, both of whom had played their last test match just a year ago. His figures were the best by a Somerset championship debutant since Tony Pearson who had taken 7 for 63 against Worcestershire County Cricket Club at the Imperial Athletic Ground in Bristol in 1961.
  • He had made his Test debut for England, in May 2018 against Pakistan, and had been a part of a century partnership with Jos Buttler in England’s 2nd innings. However, he could not pick a single wicket with the ball, his primary role, as England slumped to a 9-wicket defeat. Interestingly, he had made his first-class debut against Pakistan as well, in their warm-up match against Somerset, in July 2016. In a strange coincidence, he had failed to take any wicket in that match as well.
