Daniel Callum Sica: Max Sicas son jailed for drug trafficking
The son of notorious a Queensland triple murderer turned to street-level meth dealing to fuel his own growing drug addiction, a court has been told.
Daniel Callum Sica, the son of convicted murderer Max Sica, was jailed for 5½ years on Monday over the trafficking stint, which was busted by police in May last year.
The 30-year-old – who pleaded guilty to a raft of charges including drug trafficking and possessing counterfeit money – was made immediately eligible for parole.
His father Max is serving three life sentences for the murder of Neelma, Kunal and Sidhi Singh in 2003.
Brisbane Supreme Court was told Daniel Sica trafficked methylamphetamine over three months, frequently selling street-level quantities.
He was caught with 11.753g of pure methylamphetamine when a search warrant was executed at his unit.
Another small amount of substance was tested and found to be cocaine.
Justice Paul Freeburn said Sica had more than 400 phone messages from 29 customers relating to the supply of the drug.
Police also discovered a $50 counterfeit note and more than $35,000 in cash.
Sica’s barrister James Godbolt submitted his client was dependent on drugs at the time and was “associating with the wrong people”.
The court was told Sica was seeking “geographical isolation” to get away from the crowd.
“He has accommodation arranged when he is released, well away from the north side of Brisbane,” Mr Godbolt said.
“It shows the necessary insight by Mr Sica.”
Mr Godbolt said Sica did not profit from the trafficking, instead feeding his own habit and not accumulating any wealth.
In 2012, his father Max Sica was convicted for the murders of the three Singh siblings in 2003.
The trio’s bodies were found in a spa in their Bridgeman Downs home in Brisbane’s north on April 21, 2003.
Max Sica maintained his innocence, accusing the justice system of corruption when the verdict was handed down.
